UNT Fashion Design students at the 2019 FGI of Dallas Scholarship Competition


 Fashion Group International (FGI) Scholarship Competition 2019
                      
On Friday, April 12th, the UNT Fashion Design students participated in the annual Fashion Group International Scholarship Competition at the Dallas Market Center.  The keynote speaker for the event was Ken Downing. 146 designs were submitted to the competition and 50 were selected to walk the runway. Thirteen universities were represented and UNT had a total of 15 garments (out of the 50) walk the runway.  Students were presented with several awards for excellence in design. The University of North Texas excelled once again this year receiving the following awards and the faculty in the Fashion Design department congratulate the following students:

1.  Bre Ferrara: Ken Downing Award ($5,000.00) 
 
2.  Ana Munoz: Menswear, 1stPlace ($2,500.00)
3.  Daranh Phan: Women Sportwear, 3rd Place ($500.00)
4.  Grace Beraki:  Eveningwear, 1stPlace ($2,500.00)

Fashion Design students in the 59th Voertman Competition

Congratulations to Fashion Design Graduate student Krissi Riewe, senior students Kailie Boulton and Ann Nguyne, and junior student Nour Alkhatib for designs selected in the 59th Annual Voertman Competition. Lauren Gray in the Voertman Gallery

Fashion Design and Fibers double major, Lauren Gray, will be featured in a group exhibition at Voertman's Gallery. Lauren will be showing five garments alongside works from Drawing and Painting major, Claire Watkins, and Photography major, Ana Dria. The gallery is located at 1314 W Hickory St, Denton, TX 76201. The exhibition opens Monday, Oct. 29th and runs through Saturday, Nov. 17th. The gallery reception is on Tuesday, Nov. 6th from 6-9pm.

CALL FOR ENTRIES
25th Annual Benefit: RAGS Juried Show and Sale of Wearable Art

Tacoma, Wash. – The YWCA RAGS Guild announces a call for entries for its 25th annual juried Wearable Art show and Sale.  The RAGS 2019 event will take place March 7 – 10, 2019 at Mercedes-Benz of Tacoma.  Open to all artists working in all media of wearable art-garments, fashion accessories, and jewelry.

Two entry types with non-refundable fees:
·      Gallery – competition of one-of-a-kind artist-made pieces ($15 application fee per entry, up to three entries) Gallery entries may be for sale or NFS.
·      Marketplace – boutique-style sale ($35 application fee)

All initial entries are juried by digital images.  Accepted gallery entries are judged for awards from actual works in late February 2019.  Cash prizes to gallery winners in garments, accessories, jewelry, woven wearables and best of show.  As a benefit for domestic violence prevention programs of the YWCA Pierce County, RAGS retains 33% of Marketplace sales and 40% of Gallery sales.

2018 Young Apprentice Award

The Dallas Design District is accepting entries for the 2018/2019 Apprentice Scholarship. The scholarship will be presented to an apprentice that has excelled in their workplace and provides an innovative mindset that encompasses the Design District’s wish to encourage creativity within young artists. 
The program is an incredible opportunity for students to grow creatively and gain valuable experience and recognition from some of the best artists and designers in Dallas. The program winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship, inclusion in Modern Luxury Interiors Texas Magazine and social media coverage. Fashion Design Students in the FGI Scholarship Competition

On Friday, April 20th, UNT fashion design students participated in the annual Fashion Group International Scholarship Competition at the Dallas Market Center. The keynote speaker for the event was Erin Wasson, a jewelry designer and model. Twelve colleges/universities were represented and UNT had a total of 21 garments/accessories selected on either runway or mounted exhibition. The student designers were Ruby Aguirre, Keonna Arlequeeuw, Bryce Batchelder, Victoria Edgar, Haoyi Feng, Braylee Flaska, R'Bonney Gabriel, Marena Girgis, Courtlyn Lishka, Logan, Tyska, Tommy Lu, Asia Montague, Michael Nguyen, and Alia Sheppard.



Students were presented with several awards for excellence in design. The University of North Texas excelled once again this year receiving the following awards and the faculty members in the Fashion Design Program congratulate the following students:

FGI scholarship submission extended to April 2nd 4pm

Hello Professors,

 
Due to the Easter holidays coming up this weekend, we have decided to extend the deadline for registration and submitting scholarship competition design and merchandising entries.
 
  • Students will be allowed to submit their entries no later than Monday April 2 by 4:00 pm.

We are so excited about the upcoming Fashion Group International of Dallas Scholarship Competition on Friday April 20th from 1 – 4 PM in the Grand Pavilion at 

Trade Mart of Dallas Market Center.  This event promises to be fun, inspiring and educational!
Headlining the event this year is international fashion model and Dallas native, Erin Wasson. She will share her journey from being the first Kim Dawson Model Search winner to her glamorous modeling career, gracing the covers of magazines, and now entrepreneur.  Steve Kemble will be our Master of Ceremonies and is considered America's Sassiest Lifestyle Guru, dishing out the best advice for entertaining and fashion.  A panel discussion will take place on the topic “The Future of Fashion”, along with a fashion show and awards ceremony as the finale.  A highlight of the event is the Celebrity Judge’s Choice Award given on-site at the event based on the scoring of a panel of local celebrity judges.
